Intoxicating Addiction Poem by April Humason

Intoxicating Addiction

I chased the rush of golden highs,
Things that glittered in my eyes,
Every craving, every prize,
Pulled my heart from sacred ties.

I drank the world like sweetest wine,
Let pleasure wrap around my mind,
Built my altars out of shine,
Worshiped dust and crossed the line.

I was drunk on what would fade,
Every promise man-made made,
Every throne my flesh had laid,
Left my spirit weak and frayed.

But then You found me on my knees,
Shaking chains I couldn't see,
Breath of Heaven over me,
Breaking every false decree.

Now I'm intoxicated by Your grace,
Overwhelmed by mercy's pace,
Losing taste for lesser things,
When I see Your glorious face.

No more chasing empty thrills,
No more bowing to my will,
I want the cup Your Spirit fills,
Even if my flesh stands still.

Let me be addicted to Your truth,
Drunk on mercy, clothed in youth,
High on promises that soothe,
Rooted deep in Holy proof.

If I crave, let it be You,
If I thirst, let it be truth,
Make me new in what I choose—
Intoxicated… just in You.
