Volcanic Extinction Poem by April Humason

Volcanic Extinction

Volcanic Extinction

My life, a dormant volcano, lies in wait,
Beneath the surface, emotions accumulate.
I try to flee from the molten heat,
But it engulfs me, my heart's defeat.

The lava flows, a relentless tide,
Consuming all in its path, far and wide.
It incinerates dreams, hopes, and fears,
Leaving behind a trail of burning tears.

With each eruption, the pain intensifies,
Hot ash showers, as my spirit cries.
Tiny fragments of agony rain down,
Till I'm but a shell, a mere ghostly gown.

I search for a sanctuary, a place to mend,
But the scorching heat seems to never end.
The molten emotions devour my soul,
Leaving me broken, far from whole.

As the flames of sorrow reach their peak,
I feel my strength diminish, I grow weak.
In the relentless fire, I begin to fade,
As my essence dissolves in the cascade.

Yet, even amidst this volcanic strife,
There may be hope for a renewed life.
For when the fire's fury finally recedes,
A chance for rebirth may yet proceed.

In the cooling ashes, new seeds may sow,
A chance to rebuild, to find a new glow.
From the depths of despair, I may rise,
Embracing the chance to reclaim the skies.

So, I'll face this volcano, brave and strong,
For within me, a resilience to prolong.
The journey may be hard, but I'll endure,
Through the fire and ash, I shall secure.

the submission dates for your poems seem to indicate you did not submit any for 'many' years after this one. i'm 'glad' you've returned. i guess you avoided the lava, OR recovered from your too-hot experience(s) . :) bri

i prefer other poems of yours which have the stanza-form, unlike this one which does not. also, perhaps you 'wanted' " dissolve" , not " dissolved" in last line? ? bri :)
