Invisibility Poem by Rishini Munasinghe

Invisibility

Born transparent, no colours, so invisible,
'Grow up and try things in order to be visible'.
Parents want him in gold but he likes pink,
Who cares about what he wants. They dipped him in gold ink.
Trauma was black and anger was red.
Everybody looked silver and gold without a single drop of red.
They ate and drunk with the precious people they were with,
Nobody saw through the coats they were covered with.
He was still transparent, no colours, so invisible,
Did he not try things in order to be visible?
He cried to God, 'Lord why wouldn't I fit in with them? ',
'Either take me back or make me like one of them.'
God heard his cries and did he send a rain?
No God didn't, he sent a flood to wash away his pain.
People were screaming looking for somebody who could save,
But all the glitter and gold were washed away with the wave.
They looked at each other, speechless, shocked eyes,
Red was their colour, it has all been lies.
He was transparent, still no colours, so invisible,
Has he not tried anything in order to be visible? !
Whole word was ugly, filled with red and black,
While he wanted to be like others, invisibility is what everybody lacked.
