Ionians, And Religion's Conception Of The Universe Poem by Odelana Rapheal

Ionians, And Religion's Conception Of The Universe

Why is the world a flux?
Continuous movement and change perplex.
What is the world made of? Ionians say,
Not a myth in chapters and verses to sway.

Thales, Anaximander, Anaximenes three,
Each had their vision of what came to be.
Thales said water, moist, and flowing,
Anaximander saw Apeiron, the unknowing.
Anaximenes claimed air, mist in the breeze,
Each had their element, each had their keys.

What is the world made of?
Religion says, written in the Bible, all,
Said by the God of All,
Divine being in cosmic thrall!
An accepted myth in the soul,
A divine command, 'Let there be all! '

Ionian criticism of the God of All,
Yet they invoked the name in their call.
In every theory, the divine intertwined,
Ionians questioned with reason refined,
Engaging religious terms as they defined.
