Is Not Fair Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Is Not Fair

Is not fair

Stories, are told, made
Untrue, most of them;
Or, at least, diverted.

Since Europe didn't know
Called this land: "New World"
Insisting: "People are Indians, "
Which is wrong and mistake
Therefore, is bad, unfair.

People who lived here
Had had life forever.
Even if nomadic, and simple
Did not need the Europe to dwell;
So, it is not new, discovered
Giving it such a name is unfair.

Blaming the woman who defends
Red Skin: "Is good and peace lover"
Is a lie and a shame; obviously unfair.

When Sarah Wakefield said:
"Chaska is good, honest…"
She was damned as lover
That cheated on husband;
Patriarchs and churches
Are at fault and shameless
Rush to judge, are unfair.

Sarah is not alone
Same happened to Liza;
She, who is a McLean
Was living at Fort Pitt.

She wrote of Wandering Spirit
(Warrior and defence Minister
Of Big Bear, the Cree of Plain ;)
He murdered Thomas Quinn
(Whose role was government's:
"Force, oppress Indians
With abuse and hunger…! ")
