Isn't It Time To Write A Real Poem? Poem by Shalom Freedman

Isn't It Time To Write A Real Poem?

"Isn't it time to write a real poem- not just a one - dimensional statement of my own feeling? "I asked myself
Something more ambiguous and richer in meaning
Whose every line demands new question and interpretation
A long silence follows
I cannot write anything anymore but my own simple statements
Perhaps I am then not a poet
And never was
And all these lines are simply
The lines that they are
Of value to no real reader of poetry
Of value only to myself
And my own delusion.
