It Is Governments - Poem by Francis Duggan

It is governments who do cause people divide
And instil in their citizens nationalistic and patriotic pride
And who they want you to love and to hate and who they want on their side
It is governments on these things who always decide
On the running of the Country affairs people do not have a say
They only had that on election day
It is governments not people on other Countries war does declare
For the opinions of anti war people one thought they do not spare
The views of minorities by governments never taken into account
As if their worth as people to nothing does amount
It is governments decide who for they should legislate
Unemployed people they do not see as an asset to the State
It is governments who decide who are honourable and just
And those we should like and those we should not trust.
