It Might Have Been Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

It Might Have Been

we could be much more than what we were.
I think, it might have been,
had to be, that we moved too fast.
and fate would decide to intervene
with its own forecast

we have sunken neither one noticing
the quicksand at our feet
not a hand to grab for relief
how life begins to flash
before our eyes
something we have always
took for granted

and yet again the phrase,
"it might have been"
would sneak upon me
and it's one of life's best truths
for i know we have reached our end
making it to our stop period
that time has set in place
