'It's My Body, Please Don't'

It's My Body
by Valentine

It's my body
Mum says
Mum says I should say
If anyone tries to touch it
I don't know what she meant

Why?
Why is it our little secret
What's a 'secret'?
Maybe I will understand
When I get older
Will I understand?
Will you help me?

Or, will I be hurt
And damaged
And broken
And will I only then understand
Exactly
What
She
Meant

And will I only then try
To make sure
With every
Breath
In
My
Body
That it doesn't happen
To somebody else

It's my body
Please don't.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My wife tried to warn and protect against paedophiles. Unfortunately, even this good advice does not always work. If this poem helps protect but one child, my effort will have been rewarded.
