It's Okay Poem by Irene Edwards

It's Okay

Things happen. Things that make you want to cry.
Things you wish you could take away.
Things you hope you could do over or replace.

We all have things like that at one point or another.
They're inevitable and sadly unchangeable.
Or they were some freak accident that normally wouldn't happen in a hundred years,
But somehow managed to happen to you.

You think ‘Out of all the people this could have happened to in the world,
Out all the times this could have happened,
Out of all the things that could have been done;
Why did this have to happen to me, now? '

When you try to confide in someone, or you just want to vent your problems,
At some point they say something like:
‘This has happened to people all around the world.
It's not just you, so don't make a big deal out of it.' And though you know what they said is true,
You don't feel any better being told that.
No one likes it when they don't seem to understand that you're still upset.
And being told it's no big deal is frustrating.

You feel that: Just because what you're upset about
‘Happens to everyone' or ‘isn't as big a deal as others';
Doesn't mean you don't feel the same pain and frustration.
It doesn't mean you're being upset is unimportant or insignificant.
It just means you're hurting somewhere.
And weather that be a lot or a little shouldn't matter.

I agree completely. A person's problems should never be taken lightly,
Or treated as a source of entertainment.
Because they don't always know the repercussion of doing so.
Those problems they see as ‘little nothings' can escalate into something faster than they realize.

There are times when rationality and ‘tuff love' doesn't work.
For most of us; that's the best we can get. And for a lot of us;
We know that it just doesn't help in the end.

Sometimes you need someone who understands what you're going through or how you feel.
Or you just simply want to know that someone is listening.
Someone you can talk to your heart's content.

No, you're not the only one going through something.
And yes, things may only get harder from here.
But that doesn't mean you're not hurting.

I can't say that everything will be okay if you find the right person to confide in.
Because that's not always true in some cases.
But I can tell you that there's nothing wrong with how you feel.

That pain, that anger, that happiness, that frustration, that unusual feeling you don't understand.
It's okay to feel and express them.
Sometimes that's all you need to be told. It's okay.
