'It's Only Emma! ' Poem by Matt Mooney

'It's Only Emma! '

(Her message left, received this eve :)
'It’s only Emma returning your call.
I’ll ring again. Maybe you are in bed
Or maybe you are not at home at all.

Uncle Andy has gone home anyway.
He’d stay longer because he loved it
But he had an appointment to keep.

I took him to three concerts in town,
At our annual Chamber Music Week;
He treated me to a nice bowl of soup-
He had dinner in the middle of the day:
He has a habit of that-always and ever.

Oh, he said mass for the nuns as well,
Then we went for a three miles walk;
I took him to watch the football match
And during the week, out and about,
He mixed freely with the celebrities.

He had a great time, our octogenarian;
Talk to you soon -whenever you’re in.’
