It's The New Century Now Poem by Patti Masterman

It's The New Century Now

It's the new century now and you are gone away;
You had only a few years in the new millennium.
Your time was up and so you disappeared,
Taking with you many memories and comforts.

I had always looked forward with hope, to this century;
Never anticipating for one moment
It was to be the century you disappeared into, forever.
Perhaps even that should leave me with some hope?

Except that you are but one vertebra, in a spine of billions
Of whom the tears left behind for them would fill an ocean:
So that now I deduce the world is built upon tears and ashes-
And I feel sorry for my portion, that is yet to be spilled.

It was to be the century you disappeared into, forever. Perhaps even that should leave me with some hope? A heart-rending write though but well done.
