It Surely Says Much About People Poem by Francis Duggan

It Surely Says Much About People

Many elite Sports-people and celebrities they do suffer of self conceit
And few of them down to earth people and not that interesting to meet
Everyday in the Newspapers and on the Airwaves so much of them written and said
And people lose their sense of humility when success does go to the head
Many such people in their minds are shallow though them many do celebrate
It surely says much about people by the heroes they help to create
Such people are set up as mentors and role models though many of them far from wise
When we live our dreams through the successes of others to big egos we do give rise
I propose a toast to the reaper the reaper does take care of all
The egotistical like the more humble to his scythe eventually fall
For the celebrated 'tis hard to be humble when many their praises do sing
It must be so hard to remain as unaffected when the cheers for you in your ears ring
We put them on a high pedestal and their egos we help to inflate
And it surely says much about people by the heroes they help to create.
