It Took Me Poem by Justin Zahn

It took me a while to realize,
what makes me 'me' is simple...I'm terrified.
Terrified of not knowing what will happen next,
to be rejected by all and alone at best.
To wake up from an awful dream,
and rather be there then in reality.
To feel so isolated,
that far is too close.
To realize that hope
be but a ghost.

This terror I have,
I cannot escape,
with it, identity
is formed and shaped.
What makes me 'me'
is really quite simple,
rejection and all
of those that come with it.
