It Was Windy And Wet Last Night

By Li YuTranslated by East Sea Fairy

Wildly windy and wet, the window curtain
kept rustling night long.
And the irritating sound of the rain
and the soughing autumnal wind strong
came from outside the window into my room where they don't belong.
Being harassed the whole night
I restlessly sit up to lean on the pillow sidelong
and lie down again in the passive plight
with the leaking-out water clock in the dying out candlelight.

Like the flowing water, things of human society,
once passed
ever and forever bygone will be.
Thinking of the past,
I feel amazingly aghast
when awaking from a dream, since the height
of my power and the grandeur glory and wealth vast
I squandered wantonly before are gone forever, just like time's flight.
Nowhere can I go but take to the care-free bottle of wine bright.
