It Was Only A Dream, After All

I plucked a rose from the garden
before all the petals should fall
but sadly it soon lost its glory -
so I thought
It was only a rose, after all.

I tried to capture a love song
before it was passed all recall
but ever too soon ‘twas forgotten -
then I thought
It was only a song, after all.

You kissed my lips in the moonlight
oh how it did my heart enthral
but now it is only a mem'ry -
yet I thought
It was only a kiss, after all.

I dreamed that we were forever
no heartache on us could befall
but then you were lost to the shadow -
and I thought
It was only a dream, after all.

It was only a dream, after all!
