Ivory Tower Poem by Connie Wine

Ivory Tower

Quivering fingers touch upon keys of satin
in my mind forever flowing
thoughts of yesteryear filter through
like the wavy stream of sunlight

Nothing in life prepared me
for the power of the mind
a mind that conquers all
and never ceases to remember

A day in history some eight years ago
when so many died so quickly
a day when our faith was shattered
and yet at the same time strengthened

Our mind adjusted to the turmoil
even if our hearts took longer
as we watched the images
and felt the heartache of others

We have felt so safe in our ivory tower
but that day the rifts appeared
we became stronger and united
and to this day we stand

We give thanks to those who died that day
they will forever live in our minds
their memories will be as soft as satin keys
and their ivory rifts will be mended
