I wanted to write you a poem
of how you helped me stand,
how you held my hand;
of the words the words that lifted me
and the hugs right after;
of the favours you do so readily
and every time you got up early JUST for me!
Of all the love that you give
without ever wanting from them,
of all the friends you’re gonna have
but not YET found.
Of every birthday card and
Christmas card and “Thinking-of-you” card,
of every smile that you give
and always laughing at my jokes;
of everything you let me borrow
and every plaster on my heart and knee,
of thanks giving just for you or
of all the hugs I have in store for you!
Of everything I haven’t said to you
and everything I did and didn’t mean.
Of every time you loved me…
I couldn’t find the words
to let you know all these things in time,
’cause sentence after sentence just
couldn’t come out right.
So I’m left with five little words
I hope will make your day
just a little brighter,
just a little lighter,
just simply…worth while.
