Joy Of Flying Poem by ER Bron Chiong, RSW

Joy Of Flying

This is not a journal but a personal insight—
an excitement that can't be described in mere words
the thrills of being up in the air prevails all the time
in a series of flights from the past to the present—
although I don't even remember my first flight
in a commercial plane, local or an international flight,
aboard a presidential plane to Cotabato
or a C-130 cargo plane of the Air Force to Manila—
a short or long-distance ride undermines
the wonders of in the air surpasses them all!

It amazes me to watch amidst the white, crystal-clear clouds
outside my window—the lovely vast of the sky above,
the blue-green terrains, the sea and lakes under me—
fun-filled emotion of delight and fear
in deep appreciation of God's creation everywhere
the huge canvas of his creativity in vibrant colors
staring at the beautiful sights of sunrise or sunset
or to whatever sceneries one witness that day
makes everyone thankful for an enjoyable ride in the sky.

The able pilots in the helm at all times
and the crews that makes you comfortable
vending expensive snacks and extra meals
that quench thirst and hungry stomach full
and joy of souvenirs and gifts that comes
as passengers eat, read, nap, watch or meditate
the marvels of man's modern creation are within
that makes flying an enjoyable part of reality
a brilliant technology from the very start.

As the plane start to soar up in the sky,
the wheels are kept underneath its body,
after being up in the air for a little bit
on reaching its desired destination—
be it in Kaohsiung, Taichung, Hong Kong, Zamboanga, Cebu
or anywhere in this vast global world
the plane will finally descend as it arrives on the tarmac
and the wheels appear with a strong gentle thug
a push as it taxies its way to park—
each time is totally different and memorable
but surely a flight to reminisce and treasure.
