Jump Poem by Shreya Jani

Jump

I asked joy why do you play hide and seek
Why do you conceal yourself thus from me
Ever since I was born I had a hole in my heart
I thought that crevice was to be filled by magic
the moments on earth that I didnt now from before
Joy went to hide in the ravines of this hole
I didnt have the courage to go deep enough
Always a safety rope to pull back
I bungee jumped
But joy was still deeper i never got to it
Can i free fall and trust that joy is somewhere inside
What if the hole just consumes me
This duality never lets me be and I linger in limbo
to jump and be free or to die
I fear not death then why do I resist the jump
One day till then I linger on the edge
and joy waits below hiding in the hole.
