June In Dereen Poem by Francis Duggan

June In Dereen

In words I can only describe the beauty I have seen
On a Summer's day in June in Dereen
Of green old Duhallow a gem in the crown
Three kilometres by the mountains west of Millstreet Town
Wafting in the breeze of a nice sunny day
The sweet scent of grass mowed for silage or hay
Above the high fields of Clarabeg in the blue and gray sky
In pursuit of flying insects the dark barn swallows fly
Beautiful Dereen I remember from Summers long past
And such beautiful memories a lifetime does last
And the song of the lark in fancy I do hear
Above high Clarabeg so melodious and clear
I retain pleasant memories of beauty I have seen
Like a nice day in June by the hills in Dereen.
