Just Be (Lessons) Poem by Mazwi Sedibe

Just Be (Lessons)

Desires had my mind running wild,
So I tamed it with the harsh whip reality.
Had my head high over the hills with fantasy,
Then I brought it down the valley
With mountains of evidence like
Triviality pursuit is a man's loss.

Took a man time to be under the stand
Of men essence, for instance
Long took a woman to be revealed as
A necessity, luxury, sometimes spoil
And a reward for a man's toil.

Shot myself in the foot
And dressed the wound with lessons bandage.
Now my whole healed foot
Treads boldly and freely out of the unconscious bondage.

My heart wandered without a fix abode
When I was frothing at the mouth over
Carnal relations gone sour.

Loathing never loving
Casting a sheep's eye, never loving,
Caring never loving.
Never loving with good faith
Is equitable to futile faith.

So sons of tomorrow
As you open your eyes on this earth tomorrow
Know that yesterday is your knowledge source,
Today your knowledge stream and tomorrow
The river leading to the life or the dead, see?

At the sea do not swim with sharks.
Swim with whales,
They are never terrified by sharks.
Just be your own fish.
For your life or death
Has its own serving or dish.
