Just One Sentence Poem by Stanley Coffin

Just One Sentence

While it's a long time ago I want to sincerely apologize to you for breaking your heart,
For I know it was my words that saw us part,
For one sentence was all it took,
If I could have my time again…….,
You were committed because I'd sold you the dream then I ripped your heart apart,
For I was awash in the vagaries of youth,
While it ain't no excuse it is the reason,
It took me awhile to realize what and who I'd left behind,
You being the best thing that ever happened to me,
You remain the most beautiful woman I've ever known,
Now here I am looking at an old photo of you,
That photo and my memories are all I have left,
And I'm now haunted by all the possibilities of what could've been,
When one sentence years later has such a big impact,
I've come to feel lost without you and at times it feels unreal as if I'm in a dream,
A dream I wish I could wake up from to see you standing there,
If I could only turn back time so I could release some of this pain,
I don't know if you time to time think of me I'd like to believe you do,
That thought that I may still cross your mind somewhat eases the pain,
Chances are I'll never see you again but to the end my feelings will remain,
I will live in hope that our paths will cross someday so that I can look back into those beautiful eyes and tell you how I feel and about that sentence a chance to explain.
