JUST RESTING!
Each tired tiger comprehends each pause for staying still,
There comes a time when rest makes sense, a time-out if you will.
When sunshine spreads across the land and snowflakes start to fall,
A time-out then seems often planned, then nothing's planned at all.
It finds a spot, and gracefully it lies there feeling blessed,
A tiger weighs a lot, you see, and strong legs need a rest.
Its muscles have no tensions now, all stresses melt away,
It's wonderful that this somehow can truly make its day.
Some people understand this well, just flat out on their beds,
A forward flop to stay a spell, to soothe their heavy heads.
Some tigers snooze a little while, but don't all snore like me!
But if they did, I'd have to smile with some hilarity.
Imagine how loud that would sound, for what on Earth compares?
To us, that sound would quite astound, from mighty mouths like theirs.
Denis Martindale. For the 18th of May 2026.
Here is a wildlife poem by the Poemhunter poet Denis Martindale entitled 'Just Resting'. It is also the title of yet another newly-discovered Stephen Gayford tiger painting.
Even on a snowy day, a tiger can choose to rest. After all, it does not pay rent or have a mortgage to worry about. The thing is, while tigers are amazingly strong, they are so heavy that it makes sense to pause for a while. Have you ever wondered if tigers snore? I wondered about that. In fact, I am still wondering about it.
