The first rune
1. The introduction.
2. The daughter of the air falls into the sea, there, having become pregnant from the wind and from the water, becomes a mother of the water.
3. The duck recoiling from the nest on the knee of the mother of the water and lay there the eggs.
4. The eggs are rolled out the nest, broken into the pieces, and the pieces turned into the earth, the sky, the sun, the moon and the clouds.
5. The mother of the water conjure the capes, the bays, the beaches, the depths and the shallows of the sea.
6. Väinämöinen born from the mother of the water and long worn on the waves, until finally reaches the land.
I received the one wish,
I thought the one thought
Be ready for the song
And soon begun the word
To I sing the song of the ancestors,
The songs of our kin.
Now the words are melting in the mouth,
Poured by the speeches,
That seek on the tongue,
Reveal my tooth.
Gold my friend and brother,
Dear friend of the childhood!
We sing together with you,
We are with you utter the word.
Finally, we saw,
Now meet from the two sides!
Occasionally we go together,
Occasionally we go the friend to the friend
In the this poor space,
The wretched north country.
So give me yours arms,
To will fold our fingers together,
We sing the glorious songs,
Starting from the very best ones;
Let the friends hear the singing,
Let heed friendly
Between the growing youth
In the sprouted people.
I collected all these speeches,
These songs, which kept
And on the loins of Väinämöinen,
And in the crucible of Ilmarinen,
On the ax of Kaukomeli,
And on the arrows of Ёukahaynen,
In the far northern fields,
In the vastness of the Kalevala.
Earlier my father sing its,
Cutting the ax;
The mother taught me to its,
Sitting for her spinning wheel;
Then the child I spun
On the floor, in their knees;
I was a crumbs and ate
The milk than, baby,
They sang to me about Sampo
And on the charms of deceit Louhi,
And Sampo is older in the songs,
And Louhi died from the spell,
Vipunen died with the song,
Lemminkäinen died in the battle.

I kept the other words a lot of
And the knowledge, known to me:
I plucked them on the path,
I broke them in the heather
I broke them from the bushes
I scored them on the branches,
I gathered them in the grasses,
I pick up them on the road,
As the shepherd wandering on the trails,
And as the boy on the pastures
There the meadows is rich of the honey,
There the fields are golden,
Following Murikki-cow
And going for motley Kimmo.
The frost told me the songs
And the rain waft me the songs,
The wind blew the songs,
The sea waves brought,
The bird laid the words down,
The trees given me the speeches.
I had looped its in the one clew
I are tied its in one bundle,

I put the clew on the sled,
I put the bunch on the sled
And brought on a sled to the home,
Brought on the sleigh to the barn
And hid its on the copper casket
In the barn under the rafters.
Long time the songs are in the cold,
Long time its lay hidden.
Do not remove its from the cold?
Either do to get the songs from the cold?
Do not take the casket in the home,
To put the chest on a bench,
Under the beautiful rafters,
Under this good roof;
Either do not open the casket of the songs,
The chest, full of the words,
Either do not to take for the end of a clew
And neither do not dissolve the hank?

The glorious song I sing,
It sounds nice,
If a people bear me the beer
And give the rye bread.
If a beer will not me,
Do not offer the young beer,
I will sing and in dry rations
Or will sing with only a water;
That the evening was fun,
That our day was decorated
And that tomorrow the day we started
With the morning fun.
To use I hear the speech,
Hear as the composed songs.
One by one the nights go to us,
The days go one by one -
And Väinämöinen was one,
Eternal the song singer
Matured by the beautiful virgin,
Ilmatar was born his.

The daughter of the airspace
The slim child of the creation,
Remained a virgin for a long time,
Live unmarried a long age
Among an air vastness,
In the sprawling plains.
So she lived - and she bored,
The life became so strange:
Constantly to live alone
And to remain the girl
In that great air country,
Among the desert area.
And the maiden descend down,
She bow in the wave of the water,
On the transparent sea ridge,
On the plains of the open water;
The fierce wind began blowing,
The storm rises from the east
The sea stirs by the foam up,
The waves climb high.

The wind sway the maiden,
Tossed the maiden by a waves,
To swang into the blue sea,
On the waves with the white apex.
The wind blew the fruit for the girl,
The sea gave the completeness her.
And she wore the heavy fruit,
Her completeness with the sorrow,
The maiden have inside in the seven hundred years,
In the nine human lifes -
A birth does not occur,
Do not conceived - no born.
Water mother, she tossed
Then to the east, then to the west,
Then to the south and then to the north
And to all of the firmament country,
Grievously tormented by the pain,
By the fullness in the heavy womb -
A delivery did not occur.
Do not conceived - no born.
The virgin began cry quiet,
Saying these words:
'The woe is me, persecuted by the fate,
Me, for a wanderer, for a poor man!
I have achieved a lot of,
That I got the air out,
That the storm drives me,
That the wave swing me
On the vast sea water,
On the plains of the open waters.

I would be better in the sky in the space
To remain the daughter of the air,
Then to became a mother of the water
I am in these alien spaces:
Here is only a cold and a torments,
Hard for me to rest,
To live, languishing in the cold waters,
To wander on the waves permanently.
O you Ukko, supreme god!
You, carrier of the sky of all ones!
You descend down to the sea waves,
Hurry hurry to the rescue!
You do to rid of the pains the virgin
And the wife of the flour of the womb!
Hurry up, do not delay more,
I have need to call you! '

A little time passes,
An instant leaked almost -
Now the beauty duck flying,
Rocking the air by the wings,
Looking a seat for the nest,
Seeking a place for a habitation.
Racing towards the west, toward the east,
Rushed towards the south and toward the north,
But can not find a place
Nor the slightest seat,
To can twine a nest
And to use a home.

She flew, looked around,
Is thoughtful, said:
'If I twine the nestle on the wind,
Set the home on the wave,
Then the wind will scatter the nest out,
The waves will carry the home out. '

The water mother hears that word,
Ilmatar, a virgin of the creation ,
She rose the knee from the waves ,
She raised her arm out the sea,
That the duck mold the nest,
To suit the home.
The duck, that the beauty bird,
Fly on, looked around,
Seeing in the blue waves
The knee of the mother of the water.
She take it for a bump
And considered for a green turf.
She fly on, looked around,
Sank on the knee
And preparing a nest for herself,
Lays the golden eggs:
The six eggs are golden,
And the seventh one -is iron.
Here the duck sat as the hen,
Warms the round knee.
She sitting the day, sits the next day,
That's really the third day passes -
Ilmatar, a virgin of the creation,
Water Mother, suddenly sense
The intense heat in her knee:
The skin so heated on it,
Like in a flame the knee is
And all of the sinews are melted.
Hard moved the knee
Heavy shakes the members -
The eggs rolled into the water,
Its fell in the water waves,
Crumble on the pieces in the sea
And break down on the shivers.
No died the eggs in the mud
And the pieces in the sea moisture,
But miraculously changed
And have undergone to the turning:
The mother came out - the raw earth
Out the egg from the bottom part;
The high vault of the heaven stand
Out the egg from the top part,
The sun is bright appear
Out the yolk from the top part;

The clear moon appeared
Out a glair from the upper part;
The stars done on the sky
From the egg, from the motley part;
The clouds appears in the air
Out the egg, from the dark part.

And forward the time going on,
The year for the year run forward,
In the young shine of the sun,
In the glare of the new moon.
The mother of the water floats on the sea,
Water mother, maiden of the creation,
On the waters, that are full of the drowsiness
On the misty sea waters;
And the waters flowing underneath her
And the sky is shining her up.
Finally, she do in the ninth year
On the tenth summer now,
She raised the head out the sea
And the forehead out the vast waters,
Start to create a creations,
Become create a creation
On the transparent ridge of the sea,
On the plains of the open waters.
Only she stretched the arms out -
A cape for the cape stand on;
Wherein she stand on the foot -
Dig the pits for a fishes;
Wherein she touches the bottom by the foot -
A depths go into the deep.
Wherein she concerned the lands by the side -
The smooth beach appeared;
Wherein her foot touched the ground -
There a salmon poach stand;
And wherein she leaning a head
The small bay arose.
She sailed from the land further,
Stopped on the waves -
She build a rocks in the sea
And the underwater cliffs,
There a ships, stumbled, sit down,
A sailors will find the death.
Now really this created the rocks,
The cliffs based in the sea,
Now the winds piles thrown up,
This created the earth country,
The stones brightly dapple,
The rocks stand in the cracks,
Only prophetic song singer
Väinämöinen is not born.
Old, faithful Väinämöinen
Wandering in the womb of the mother,
He spends there a thirty years,
Spends a winters exactly so much
On the waters, full of the drowsiness,
On the sea mist waves.
He take thought, thinking:
How to be and what to do
On this dark space,
In an awkward, dark place,
Wherein the sunlight does not shine,
A gloss of the months is not to see.
He said such words
And uttered such speech:
'Moon, golden sun
And she-bear in the sky!
Give the output as soon as possible
From the door unknown to me,
From the unusual gate
Of the very poky home!
You give the freedom to the husband,
You give the will to the child,
To see the bright moon,
To enjoy the sun,
To wonder the she -bear,
To look at the stars of the sky! '
But the moon do not give the freedom,
And the sun do not let go.
To live him there become hard,
Turn the life hateful him:
He touched the fortress gates,
He moved by the ring -finger,
He opened the bone look
By the small finger of the left foot;
He crawling on the arms from the threshold,
On the knees through the canopy.
He fell in the blue sea,
Grabbed the waves by the arms.
Suggested the husband on the sea boon,
The bogatyr rest among the waves.
He lie the five years in the sea,
The five years inside and swayed the six years,
And the seven and the eight years more.
Finally he swims ashore,
On an unknown sandbank,
Swam on the treeless shore.
He raise on the knees up,
Relies on the arms.
Got up to see the bright moon,
To enjoy the sun,
To wonder the she- bear,
To look at the stars of the sky.
Thus Väinämöinen was born,
Of the tribe of the dare singers
The famous progenitor,
Virgin Ilmatar born.
