Kargil Poem by Vinaya Joseph

Kargil

In the summer of ninety-nine, beneath the Kargil sky,
Where rugged mountains stand as sentinels, reaching high,
Echoes of battle and whispers of valor,
Tell tales of heroes, their spirits all aglow.

The peaks of Kargil, once serene and grand,
Turned into battlefields, defended by the brave stand.
Where soldiers' footsteps, steady and bold,
Fought through the snow, through the ice and the cold.

From Dras to Batalik, the warfront stretched wide,
In every crevice and cranny, where brave hearts reside.
Through the icy winds and the rocky trails,
In the face of danger, no courage ever pales.

The enemy, shrouded in shadows and stealth,
Sought to conquer and claim, for power and wealth.
But standing guard, with honor and pride,
The Indian soldiers, their duty their guide.

Captain Vikram Batra, with a heart so fierce,
"Yeh Dil Maange More, " his call pierced.
Scaling the heights, with a lion's might,
In the face of death, he brought the light.

Lieutenant Manoj Pandey, with a spirit so grand,
Led his men with valor, took his brave stand.
Amidst the hail of bullets, the thunderous roar,
He carved a path, forever more.

In the cold trenches and bunkers deep,
Where shadows fall and silence creeps,
The soldiers fought, with rifles in hand,
Defending the honor of their beloved land.

Artillery thundered, and the mountains quaked,
As shells exploded, and destinies shaped.
In the theater of war, through dust and flame,
Heroes emerged, etching their names.

Medic tents whispered prayers and hope,
Doctors and nurses, with tender scope.
For every wounded soldier, a promise made,
To bring them back from the edge of the blade.

The Air Force soared with might and grace,
In azure skies, they joined the chase.
With bombs and sorties, they lent their power,
In the darkest nights, in the crucial hour.

Families at home, with hearts in prayer,
Awaited news with tender care.
Letters from the front, inked with love,
Brought solace and hope, from skies above.

The tricolor flew with pride and might,
In the winds of Kargil, pure and bright.
A symbol of freedom, a beacon of peace,
A testament of resolve, that will never cease.

Through snow and ice, through blood and sweat,
The soldiers forged, their spirits set.
Victory dawned with a rising sun,
A battle hard-fought, a war hard-won.

In the silent aftermath, in tranquil air,
Echoes of bravery lingered there.
The names of heroes, in hearts engraved,
For the land they loved, for the land they saved.

Kargil stands, a testament true,
Of courage and sacrifice, old yet new.
In memory of the brave, in the songs they sing,
The spirit of Kargil forever will ring.

So let us remember, with reverence deep,
The sacrifices made, the promises to keep.
In the heart of mountains, under the sky so wide,
Lies the soul of a nation, filled with pride.

For in every soldier, in every fight,
Burns the flame of freedom, shining bright.
The story of Kargil, the valor displayed,
In the annals of history, will never fade.

The cold winds howl, the night is stark,
Yet every heart carries a spark.
Of bravery unseen, of battles fought,
In Kargil's harsh terrains, where courage was sought.

Through the night, as stars bear witness,
To stories of valor, of endless fitness.
Where warriors fell, and yet they rose,
For their homeland, to vanquish foes.

In Batalik's heights, and Dras's domain,
Where every ridge and slope bore the pain.
Of soldiers who, with unyielding might,
Fought till the end, in the dead of night.

Each bullet fired, each step taken,
Echoed the resolve, unshaken.
In the icy abyss, in the cold so sheer,
They faced the enemy without fear.

Memories linger of those who stayed,
In the silent nights, where shadows played.
Their laughter, their tears, their dreams unsaid,
In the snows of Kargil, where brave blood bled.

The ground now quiet, the echoes still,
But the tales of bravery continue to fill.
Our hearts with pride, our eyes with tears,
For the valiant souls, who quelled our fears.

From the peaks of Tiger Hill to Tololing's crest,
The soldiers of India gave their best.
With every push, with every climb,
They defied the odds, transcending time.

The Himalayan winds whisper their names,
In the annals of honor, in eternal flames.
For in the heart of every ridge and vale,
Lies a story of valor, a hero's tale.

The eagles soar, the mountains stand,
As silent witnesses to the valiant band.
Of soldiers who, with unyielding zeal,
Protected their land, with hearts of steel.

Through the fog of war, through the haze of strife,
They defended freedom, with the ultimate sacrifice.
In the harsh terrain, in the fierce fight,
They stood as beacons, in the darkest night.

The dawn breaks over the peaks so high,
As we remember those who didn't say goodbye.
Their legacy lives, their spirit thrives,
In the heart of India, their memory survives.

In the classrooms, in the fields so green,
In the bustling cities, in every scene.
The sacrifices of Kargil inspire,
A nation united, a burning fire.

For every soldier who fought that war,
Left a mark, a lasting scar.
On the heart of India, strong and proud,
In the chorus of freedom, their voices loud.

Let us honor their deeds, their stories tell,
Of the battles fought, where heroes fell.
For in the heart of Kargil, where the cold winds blow,
Lies the spirit of India, in an eternal glow.

The peaks may echo with silent might,
But the story of Kargil remains in sight.
A tale of bravery, of duty and love,
Etched in the skies, in the stars above.

So, as the sun sets on the Kargil range,
Let us remember, let us never change.
Our gratitude, our honor, our endless praise,
For the soldiers of Kargil, in eternal blaze.

Their memory lingers, their legacy stands,
In the heart of every Indian, in these lands.
For Kargil's heights, though cold and stark,
Bear witness to a nation's enduring mark.

A mark of courage, of undying will,
Of the brave hearts who fought in Kargil.
Their stories, their sacrifice, in history's page,
Will live on forever, from age to age.
