Kilkenny Poem by Brendan Duffy

Kilkenny

A cold winter's night sets the scene
Freezing outside, warm and cosy inside
Relaxing on the big leather couch
With nothing in between

The fire is lit and the music is flowing
You're cuddled beside me
Head on my shoulder, legs over mine
On your soft face the fire is glowing

We toast silently to our night together
With wine and pringles
'A bar without nuts? ' you say
A memory i will have forever

Our little romantic getaway
Interrupted by two fire alarms
'Thank god nobody was harmed' I say
As we go to the shops for a stray

Just the two of us, together at last
We had long talks and walks
Big laughs and little ones too
Together we agree it was a blast!

But nothing made me smile more
Than to wake up beside you in the morning
To see you look so beautiful, even when yawning
And not once did i ever here you snore!

But knowing that you would be the first thing i see
Helped me sleep better through the night
To relax down and feel comfortable
In a bed that was a stranger to me

With my arms stretched out as far as the wings on a 747
I thank you from the bottom of my heart
That you chose to go away with me
The love of my life who fell from heaven.
