Killing Me Poem by M S Latter

Killing Me

The basic need to pay the bills:
So simple, so complex, such pain.
It's not work but the job that kills.

Targets or job loss - fear instilled.
Crazy commute adds to the strain -
The basic need to pay the bills.

Bullying, mind games, blamestorm thrill,
Those tricks of politics again
It's not work but the job that kills -

Seeping through the heart with a chill.
Initiative and soul constrained,
The basic need to pay the bills,

Sitting here bored with rusting skills;
And much previously wasted in vain -
It's not work but the job that kills.

Perhaps I should exercise free will:
Fire myself? Hara-kiri? Go insane?
And leave the need to pay the bills.
It's not work but the job that kills.
