King Poem by Rebecca Lyle

King

Rating: 5.0

King

You were a King
Yet you wore no crown of jewels
You did not sit on a throne made of gold
But I would have worshipped at your feet.
You were a savior,
Yet not the son of our Heavenly Father
You walked among modern man.

You tried so hard to change a world
Whose eyes were closed
Through peacefully protecting
With rational thoughts
You thought Love was always the answer
And you were right.

You tried so hard to make others see
We must be a united nation
To love your Brother
regardless of the color of his skin
Yet others hated you for your beliefs
You never hated anyone
And they hated you for the color or your skin.

They tried to keep you down, but you rose
Although you fought for what was right
In the end, they killed you for these things
With you went the beautiful ideas
That we will never know
You were way too beautiful,
For this ugly world
Rest in peace,
Dr. Martin Luther King

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Dr. King has always been to me, one of the greatest men to have ever lived. I was a child when he was killed but it made me weep for days, for what could have been, had he lived.
