You're Not a Poet, Until- - -
You're not a poet until you make me cry
sometimes make me want to die.
Your words just lay on a page
sometimes they enrage
with your lack of ability to see.
Does poetry course through your veins
like the blood that Our Lord shed?
Do you care too much about
everything and everyone, except one?
Is suffering a way of life?
Have you walked through Hell;
felt the flames liicking your flesh?
When someone you love leaves
do you just not cry;
part of your soul dies.
Poets are broken people,
never to be repaired.
Their souls are shredded
their hearts weep.
Sometimes their writing is very deep.
Does poetry torture you?
Does it pound in your head;
could you stand on the cliff
staring into the abyss;
saying, one step, the pain would end.
But, instead you pick up your pen,
pour all your suffering into words.
If you can answer yes
then, broken as you are
with all the invisible scars.
Yes, you are a poet.

Very deep, very sad and thought provoking. Writing can be your life preserver! 🥰
excellent words- But, instead you pick up your pen, pour all your suffering into words. If you can answer yes then, broken as you are with all the invisible scars. nice 10+++++
Really, without pain and raw experience of life one can not be a poet.There is song in my native language that one can not be a poet if he/she doesn't suffer.Great thought.Loved very much.
Thank you so much, my friend. I think most poets do suffer in some way.
Your words pound in my head making me feel the pain you have suffered you are indeed a poet broken as you are
I love this poem because it rings ttrue to me as what I see a poet is.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
a nice poetic piece that gives some insight of the inner thoughts of a poet? .....well written.
Thank you so much, Tom. I love this poem only because to me it really is how I feel when I write.
