Kleenex Poem by Robert Gilchrist

Kleenex

You threw me away from you
Like a used kleenex no longer useful
Too old and embarrassing to keep around
With anger and bitterness unfounded
To a place not of my making.

I revisit our conversations
Poring over every nuance minutely
To ascertain the truth or otherwise
Of a friendship lost in confusion
And overcharged emotions.

Through tears of rejection
I compose well-crafted responses
To justify my position
So you may understand my pain
And to bring you back.

All to no avail...
I will not send them
I do not want my unhappy state
To cause further hurt
Or push you beyond redemption.

It is only friendship after all
Six years in the making
You can survive without me
In this throw away culture
As you pursue your dream.
