Lost At Sea Poem by Robert Gilchrist

Lost At Sea

The journey of life
Navigates rocky paths
Around winding roads
Into arid deserts
Over stormy seas
Where loneliness
Threatens to drown you.

Perchance a traveler
Comes alongside
Moving in step
And pathways are pleasant
With cool streams
You eat of the fruit
Of companionship.

Pilgrims pass by
Or overtake you
Adding their story
For a brief moment
Of inspiration
And joy
Into the journey.

Adrift at sea
Calling for help
The crew remains
Oblivious to your plight
Man overboard
Is lost amongst
The noise of life.

How you long for
Your friend to glance
In your direction
And throw you a lifeline
A compassionate gesture
As unnamed horrors
Circle and nudge you.

He is distracted
By other objects
And passing strangers
Who detain him for a second
As he travels
And you are lost
Through inattention.
