Lament Poem by Alejandro Torres

Lament

Walk under the stars
Over broken glass
Shattered
The night we barely spoke
But we said volumes
When we should have had
Silence
Why did I throw my heart
On the ground
As hard as I could
Shards of gold
You would wonder about
If you thought of me anymore
But I did it
Never the less
Cause it meant nothing
Walking through this desert
Without you
Find songs
Were anguish and pain
Are heard in frequencies of tears
And I sing them out
To the night sky
Wondering if by chance
This wet wind carries it to you
Cause if I told you
I stood out in the rain
Thinking of you
You wouldn’t care
Scream
Every ragged breath I take
Breaks those shards
Just a bit more
And I lament my loss
In the tenor of Gypsies
In the frequencies
Of my ancestors
Would this picture be more
To you
Than all the previous days
Combined
Where I smiled
Even though wee both knew
I was just biding time
To cry out
For you
