Land Does Remain Poem by Francis Duggan

Land Does Remain

People come to and go from life but the land does remain
And land ownership by a paper deed one can only attain
But those who claim ownership of land have got it all wrong
How can we own land since to the land we belong
Many may disagree with me but what I say not a lie
That the land you cannot take with you on the day you do die
The longest lived human life in real time a short span
And the land does outlive every woman and man
Few people survive to beyond the years of four score
But the land has been around forever and will be around forever more
You have only a paper deed to prove that land you do own
Am I telling you something you have already known
Though many will say that I have it all wrong
When I say that we cannot own the land since to the land we belong.
