Last Night (I Had A Dream) Poem by Wakefield Mahon

Last Night (I Had A Dream)

Last night I had a dream
Like silver snow and starry nights
I dreamt that you and I made love
Envisioned lace and satin white
You and I were happy then
But that was just a fantasy

Last night, I danced with you
Our troubled times had come to bliss
Two warring nations made a truce
I thought my neck had felt your kiss
You and I were happy then
But that was just a blissful thought

Dreams, they are so beautiful
The truth often hidden
We long to live our fantasies
Although they be forbidden

Last night, I held your hand
So tight, I almost shed a tear
Then poured out all of my love for you
Our love was smothered by your fear
You and I were joyless then
But that was just a game we played

Last night you took your leave
You touched my hand and turned away
Trembling as you left me there
I did not know quite what to say
I thought I heard the angels cry
But that was just my broken heart
