Late Proposal. Poem by Kinyua Karanja

Late Proposal.

It can’t be declared yet
That life has been an easy bet
A witness with a distorted sense of view
Could give misleading secret interview
That the journey is by gravitational pull
And little brakes as you go down the hill
Unaware of piles of sleepless nights
The risks of extreme high heights
The Chains of starvation days
Trekking in totally darkened ways
Depressing and agonizing nightmare
That I couldn’t have guts to share
Many think it’s all right and fine
Failing to notice the thin line
Between pretense and reality
When I say my heart is empty
Laugh and make some dirty jokes
But no one can taste my bitter cakes
Nor share the weight on my back
Before she adds more on my rack
Announcing that it’s too late
She didn’t even recall the date
That differentiates me and him
She wished that we could swim
And she felt very sorry to inform
That I couldn’t withstand the storm
If we sailed together offshore
Saying she was sorry once more
She can’t betray him for me.

Late Proposal.
