May I just agree with Alison's comment - it is the lightness of a skilful pen which makes this piece brilliant.

I love your 'silly little cameo', Ivan. Sometimes the only way to cope is to laugh long and loud. And it's such an Australian attitude too (think of the young men sharing jokes in the trenches) . You move your pen with a light touch and quite a lot of poetic brilliance too.
