Lean On Me Poem by Sandra Carter

Lean On Me

Rating: 4.3

They prayed for a beauty, and they planted a seed,
They expected no less, but did not water and feed.
Simply kneel in the garden, provide time and care
But they kneeled by the bed…prayed in despair.
Our loving God, he knew what to give.
Through his sunshine, it grew and it lived.
It's with him I place faith, I asked for release
From the very garden that I struggled for peace.
I heard no response, I grew with what I'd been given
I was not beautiful, but indeed I was living.
I've seen storms, I've endured heavy rains
I've even had lovers who have carved their names.
My wounds have healed, but the scars remain
Who I long ago was… will never be the same.
I stand tall now, my branches so strong
Where the birds rest, and sing their songs.
When restless souls are tired in fight
My branches come down and hold them tight.
I counted on others, but now stand on my own
I give comfort to others, so I won't feel alone.
God has released me, in his own unique way
Peace is within, there's no running away.
You can stand and do nothing, you'll live just the same
Or you can truly thrive, just let go of the shame.
Give to others, as you'd like to receive,
Listen to God, through the soft subtle breeze.
If that's my purpose, I will happily comply
It's an endless beauty, that won't wilt and die.
From higher ground there's bright skies to see
Climb on my branches…. and lean on me.
