Leaves For Blankets Poem by anthony jones

Leaves For Blankets

I feared you had already given up but
while we are together for the last time
this is the only chance we will get
so match your breath with mine.

Our eyes locked and I saw the regret
trickle down your face but you never knew.
The mocking birds were silenced when
you broke my heart. I loved you too.

Kicking the Autumn leaves for blankets
as I walked away I will cherish the wealth
of affection you never even had for me.
Distance as our difficulty was always stood
between us, but it's harder knowing we are now
just friends-to-be.

The good times like the bad times
are forever passing away but
maybe, just maybe
I could have shared them with you...

Hold out your hands
and receive your star from the night-time sky.
But, take your time
or it will burn and you will be left to cry.

Catch up with your dreams
run as fast as you possibly can
for they can leave you stood
with only your plans.

Kicking the Autumn leaves for blankets
as I walked away.

Kicking the Autumn leaves for blankets
as I gave up.
