Let Go Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Let Go

You are not Atlas.
You do not hold the globe on your shoulders.
It spins on the power of individuals' whims.
So let go!

Watch it float away through space.
Then take the mental will you waste
Trying to hold it in place
And focus it inward on the chaos
That has been collecting while you raced
Toward a goal that never was
And never will be
Within your reach.

What are you afraid of?
What have you been running from?
Why must you keep yourself occupied
With everyone else's lives?
From what part of yourself
Are you attempting to hide?

As if you could evade your shadow
By chasing after the frayed ends
Of everyone else's mistakes
Instead of following your own home.

What awaits may be messy.
Mending it may be painful.
But what is left unattended will fester.
What is unacknowledged will rot.

So sit.
Not in judgment of others.
Not in readiness for action.
Not waiting for a worthy purpose.

Just sit.
Let your mind go blank.
And when all is still
Without and within
You may begin
To live

Not for others
Not for yourself
Not even for God
But as you truly are.

In this state
Unburdened
Unformed
Unseparated
Unseparable
Is bliss.
