Let Me Go Poem by Elizabeth U. Adams

Let Me Go

Why do you feel you have to do this?
Why do you feel you can play with me?
What did I ever do to you?
That could make you treat me so badly?
I gave you all I had to give
Everything I had I gave on a platter
But all you wanted to do is hurt me
Treat me as if I don't matter
I let you go without strings attached
Set you free to roam as you pleased
Yet you keep on taunting me when you're given the chance
Why wont you just let me be at ease
With who I am and my own life
Instead of always trying to make me look like a fool
By saying you love me and need me
I think you just don't like that I'm happy without you
You've realized you can't keep me down
Your narrowmind won't keep me on balls chains
You see now that I can go on
My head not my heart reigns
I can put you aside
Just act as if you never were
But that's what gets to you the most
Is that I don't care if you're with her
I'm just glad you're no longer in my life
I'm glad I let you go on your merry way
But I see that you want to torment me
Day after day
I said it before and I'll say it again!
I don't want you, I'm over you
You played with fire, and you're been burned
My mama didn't raise no fool
So take your lies
Your confessions of love that will never die
And give it her
Maybe one day, if she's lucky, she'll find its all a lie!
