Life In The Insane Lane Poem by Roger Gerald Hicks

Life In The Insane Lane

I tried on June, then July-
wore August
until my knees
showed and the crotch burst.

You claim you're Santa Barbara,
but remind me of San Francisco
I think of myself as L.A. but
always wished I was Paris

My brother is Hong Kong
One sister is Pittsburg
the other's
Honolulu.

Fresno, my best friend
nearly became
Santa Monica
in London.

I like your family-
they're all Denver
Wish we could make it together
but doubt it-
some suburbs
defy integration.
