Life Is A Dark Pit Poem by Shelby Miller

Life Is A Dark Pit

Life is a dark pit.
full of deceit. lies. heartbreak.
sunshine and butterflies don't apply.
there magic cant be seen.
It’s gone. it will never return.
the only time we see the beauty is in the face of a newborn baby.
so innocent and full of life. so mysterious.
all of us wondering how they'll grow up.
how the cruelness of the world will cash there perfect being.
love is blind and it will soon die.
it will soon cry out for us. beg us to remember.
but life won’t let us remember the good. only the bad.
only the lies and hate and deceit. there's rape murder chaos.
we're just animals in fancy clothes. driving nice cars. living in nice houses. but what about us who embrace our animal side? those who believe as I do that we are no better. we are no different.
we are worse because we pretend not to have those urges.
and people who admit to these urges.
are shunned. outcasts. uncivilized barbarians.
and those who act on their urges. are killed.
are sentenced to life in an iron cell. or padded room.
its not so hard to understand
why do we lie?
why are we not truthful?
we need to live like our ancestors.
we're stupid. fat. Lazy and corrupt.
people say because I have a dark view on this thing we call life I'm childish. but it is they. who will always live. in sunshine and butterflies.
while I dine. with the dead.
