Like A Waiting Tomb Poem by Barry Middleton

Like A Waiting Tomb

love can be elusive
loneliness hides in the crowd

the city throbs like a beating heart
as lost souls watch

two lovers rest on a park bench
a songbird sings it's tune

but for the loveless ones
there is no movement or sound

the silent stillness of the city
is like a waiting tomb

The last two verses a precious crown to the whole poem.
