Like Soldiers Waiting Poem by Minnie Gehrig

Like Soldiers Waiting

Rating: 5.0

n she lines them up
in red juicy rows
against the frozen counter
like soldiers puckered n waiting kisses

n i do not eat them ever....
but i do sleep
restless n the eaves n dawns n underneath exaggerated shadows.....

n talk long with my father in the dawning hours................
i intrude with the sun....
n accept long sweeping hugs n conditions of endearing
trust n love....

yet hungry as i am...
a tongue glistening against a lip...
i do not eat those apples
n so i dont forget.......
