Lines On The Death Of A Favourite Dog Poem by Francis Duggan

Lines On The Death Of A Favourite Dog

Rating: 5.0

I'll not be seeing him anymore
Sitting by the back porch door
My border collie 'Bobelleen'
A truer friend there's never been.

My heart for him sheds a silent tear
And sense of loss has punished me severe
He was a friend and friends are few
And a canine friend is ever true.

Some dogs have a perceptive mind
And Bobelleen was of that kind
He understood what I'd to say
And my every command he'd obey.

When I'd go walking on sunday
My Bobelleen would lead the way
You'd swear by him that he did know
The direction I'd chosen to go.

I'm glad that the end for him was quick
That he did not suffer was not sick
He died beneath a motor wheel
And prolonged pain he did not feel.

I wish it all were a bad dream
And I'd not lost my Bobelleen
But wishing will not bring me back
My faithful till death magpie black.
