Lines On The Old Man's Face Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Lines On The Old Man's Face

Definitive lines on his face
Convey the pathos of his life
One can see the painful trace
Of anguish cutting as a knife.

His unshed tears locked up inside
Stifled grief that left him torn
Eyes in blank stare try to hide
A father's sorrow yet unborn.

The years have not been very kind
Each day he ached for lost company
His beloved son they could not find
These last days leave him a memory.

War is cruel, unmerciful is Fate
For heroes are the dead and the lost
The lines on his face now sadly state
'My son had paid such a great cost.'
