Little Children Poem by Valerie Dohren

Little Children

Little children did you know
Your daddy went to war,
You were then a little kid
Of maybe three or four.

He could not read you fairy tales
Or tuck you up in bed
Because he was a hero, brave,
And fought for you instead.

He badly wanted to come home
But that was not to be,
He gave his precious life for us
So that we could be free.

And now that you are all grown up
I know you'll understand
Why he wasn't there for you
And couldn't hold your hand.

So love him, love him, love him true
And never let him go -
Hold his hand in memory,
Because he loved you so.
