Lo, The Poppies Sway Poem by Isadora Quagmire

Lo, The Poppies Sway

Rating: 5.0

Lo, the poppies sway,
As we remember on this day,
The men who fell for us,
Who gave their lives for us,

Lo, the poppies sway,
Like the blood of those who lay,
Dying and alone,
Steered by tyrants' thrones.

Lo, the poppies sway,
In the battle's fray,
As man and man, fight to the death,
Until their dying breath.

Lo, the poppies sway,
Did they ever dream it would end this way?
They—foe and friend
—just wanted to see their families' smiling faces in the end.

Lo, the poppies sway,
Why did it have to be this way?
Now they are gone,
The war is done.

Lo, the poppies cry,
For the men who did die,
We will always remember those souls brave,
We shall never forget what they gave…

A beautiful poem with a wonderful title. It depicts an enduring symbol of the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for us. Very, very touching. So brilliantly crafted. Liked the recurring lines in every stanza. To my favorites.
