Lolo Carte Poem by Pathrese Lei Mari Abejuela

Lolo Carte

My grandfather,
You’re my only grandfather.
Never have I known
Any other.

I missed the chance
To see you at the entrance.
Now your at the exit
There’s no more chance.

Tears falling
Not for you but for me.
I can’t be there,
It’s so unfair.

You went to the exit
Not even telling me.
Astonishing it was.
Depriving it was.

Four years
And not even a word was spoken.
Four years
And not even a face was seen.

Grandfather, my grandfather,
Have you even remembered me?
When you were about to depart
Did you hear my voice speaking to your heart?

I can’t see you on the day,
The day you’ll fully go.
Never will I ever see you again.
I just can’t ease the pain.

Time so callous
For seeing you the last time
It did not allow.
There’s no more time now.

Soon I’ll see you.
Not your face but
Only your name.
What a shame.

Goodbye I bid to you.
“Lolo Carte” I love you.
